A remarkable 33 million Americans will lose their sight this year due to cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (ARMD). Considering that 80% of the information you take in from the world is visual, this is pretty sad. ARMD and cataracts have become the two leading causes of eyesight loss in the U.S with 13 million Americans going blind from macular degeneration. It affects the most important part of your eyesight - the central sharp vision portion of your retina. The specialized nerve cells in the macula begin dying off, causing everything in the center of your vision to become blurred. There is no treatment for blindness caused by progressive macular degeneration. Cataracts in particular begins to creep up on you after age 50 gradually causing the lens in your eye and your vision to become cloudly. Thankfully, there are simple measures you can take to save your sight.
